AnimalFarmGO is an educational website that provides online resources to unravel the satirical novel Animal Farm by George Orwell. Many students find it difficult to absorb and understand the novel, and do not realize the figurative meaning behind it. AnimalFarmGO aims to explore the relationship between the novel and historical events regarding the 1917 Russian Revolution and Joseph Stalin's role in the Soviet Union. By doing so, readers will get a grasp of Orwell's true intentions for writing this novel, and further broaden their understandings towards the Russian Revolution. Although the website does not provide information for all the characters and events in the novel, it does focus on main features in the novel, including Napoleon, Snowball, The Rebellion and Dictatorship.
A Brief Introduction - Animal Farm
Animal Farm is an allegorical fable story written by George Orwell, which explores the lives of a group of farm animals as they revolt against mankind. (Wikipedia. 2013). The animals, who aimed to achieve peace and democracy in the farmyard, were gradually corrupted by the influence of their own power, and soon, numerous problems began to arise. (Orwell. 2008). The novel is a satire which portrays events that took place during the Russian Revolution in 1917, and focuses on Stalin's career as the leader of the Soviet Union. Through the connections Orwell has made between the novel and the Russian Revolution, the author evokes his skepticism towards Stalin's plans and policies as a Russian Dictator, criticizing his regimes in a satirical manner.
